The State Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemical Biology (the Laboratory) regularly hosts a frontier cross-disciplinary forum covering pharmaceutical, chemical and biological sciences. By inviting laboratory PIs to display cutting-edge research achievements, the Laboratory has established a cutting-edge academic exchange platform for teachers and students to enhance the understanding and communication between different research groups.

On September 28, the Laboratory held its fifth frontier cross-disciplinary forum in pharmaceutical, chemical and biological sciences. The forum was hosted by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and attended by about 80 people, including laboratory PIs, postdoctoral fellows, and students. The forum invited the specially appointed Professors Lu Zhaoyong, Li Chenggang, and Lu Xinyi from the Laboratory to deliver academic reports entitled "Complete synthesis research on new anti-cancer natural products inspired by biosynthesis", "Anti-tumor effects of regulating abnormal metabolic pathways", and "Regulation and function of transposons in embryonic stem cells", respectively.

On October 26, the sixth frontier cross-disciplinary forum in pharmaceutical, chemical and biological sciences was held in the conference hall of the comprehensive experimental building of Jinnan Campus. The forum was moderated by Gong Deshun, a specially appointed professor of the Laboratory, and attended by about 100 teachers and students. The forum invited the specially appointed professors Shuai Ling and Bian Xin, and associate Dr. Gao Jie from the Laboratory to deliver academic reports entitled “Rif1 and Hmgn3 Regulate Conversion of Murine Trophoblast Stem”, “Application of DNA paper folding and optical tweezers in membrane biology”, and “Polypeptide controllable self-assembly and its biomedical applications”, respectively.

On November 30, the 7th frontier cross-disciplinary forum in pharmaceutical, chemical and biological sciences was held in the Laboratory. The specially appointed Professor Yu Zhongbo hosted the forum and about 60 teachers and students of the Laboratory attended. This forum invited the specially appointed Professors Liu Yijin and Gong Deshun from the Laboratory to deliver academic reports entitled "Nucleic acid drug design based on new RNA structures" and “Structure of the human Meckel-Gruber protein Meckelin” respectively.

The forums had an animated atmosphere with participants actively interacting with each other and asking questions about the source of inspiration for the research, as well as the future research directions of the speakers.

Through the series of frontier cross-disciplinary forums in pharmaceutical, chemical and biological sciences, the internal exchanges and cooperation of the Laboratory have been strengthened, which is conducive to propelling the construction of internal research teams and promoting the development of interdisciplinary disciplines, while further helping to stimulate the enthusiasm of graduate students to broaden their academic horizons and bravely scale new heights.
